Abortion
Julie Lassa believes in a woman’s right to terminate the life of her unborn child
Likely to vote for abortion rights
Julie receives the full endorsement of Pro-Choice group Emily’s List.
Voted YES on SB129: Emergency contraception for assault victims. This bill requires hospitals to offer drugs to terminate pregnancy
Voted 220-215 in favor of the Affordable Health Care for America Act: HR 3962.
This bill purposely included abortion language that allows tax payer money to fund abortion. The bill also purposely excluded the Hyde Amendment, which would have given protection of tax payer money to fund abortion
Don Raihala is a Pro-Life candidate who will not sign legislation that uses any form, either directly or indirectly, of tax payer money to fund any type of activity that destroys the life of the unborn.
Unlikely to vote for abortion rights
We are not to be comforted simply because monies to pay for abortion are coming from separate accounts. If the intent was not to have this conflict, then it should have been entirely left out of the bill

Illegal Immigration
Likely to vote for amnesty
Voted NO on SB 567: Limit Public Assistance to Citizens or Legal Residents of the United States only
This bill limits public assistance to citizens or legal permanent residents of the U.S. and requires documentary proof to receive benefits.
Do nothing Congress sits idle as Obama administration sues Arizona for protecting their own borders against illegal immigration
Congress puts amnesty bill or path for citizenship for illegal aliens on hold until after fall elections
Unlikely to vote for amnesty
Will vote to strengthen the southern board to protect our country from undocumented aliens including those that are coming from all over the world.
Open borders allow for a continual stream of drugs, human trafficing, weapons, eradicated disease, terrorist threat and undocumented people.
Gun Control
Voted NV: No Vote on AB 581 - Gun Possession During Emergencies
This bill provides that a person of authority, who is granted such emergency powers, may not exercise the powers to restrict the possession, transfer, sale, transport, storage, display, or use of firearms or ammunition during an emergency.
HR 45: Blair Holt's Firearm Licensing and Record of Sale Act of 2009 - currently in committee.
Prohibit a person from possessing a firearm unless that person has been issued a firearm license; transferring a firearm; failing to report to the Attorney General an address change; keeping a loaded firearm
Will not vote to infringe on the Constitutional right to bear arms.
Fiscal Responsibility
Claims to be advocate of government accountability and transparency and reigning in spending.
Voted YES on 2009-2011 fiscal state budget. Wisconsin now has a record budget deficit of $2.7 billion and is projected to increase in 2011
With federal budget deficits expected to equal last years $1.4 trillion, Congress continues to spend and continues to bring new expenditure bills to the floor including debate for a second stimulus.
The national debt currently stands at $13.2 trillion which equates to $42,000 per every man, woman, and child in the United States
Never had a fiscal deficit and fully understands the concept of you can’t spend what you don’t have
Personal Responsibility and Your Rights
Voted to infringe on the rights of Wisconsin citizens on the following:
Increased auto insurance minimum liability limits: starting in June 2010 insurance rates for a large portion of Wisconsinites increased
Smoking ban bars smoking in bars: rather then let the free market decide where you can smoke the government has decided for you
Unpasteurized Milk Ban: bill would have prevented farmers from selling milk in its pure natural form
Maintenance of Effort for Emergency Services: prevents counties and municipalities from reducing the police and fire dept. budgets or risk losing state funds
Though the infringed on rights to the left are state issues, there are may federal government agencies now seeking to take away your constitutional rights
What would Don have done?
Rather than rewarding a special interest group - lawyers. Don would have pursued having Homestead rights to protect your personal property from judgments due to auto liability litigation awards.
Smoking is legal: this bill only hurts bar owners and does little to reduce or prevent smoking
Will protect farmers and growers rights to sell natural organic untreated food products
Local government bodies should reserve the right to govern themselves without the threat or interference of state government

War Funding
Likely to continue war funding
Would have voted YES on recent war funding bill, “to give the troops the resources they need to do their jobs and keep us safe”.
Milwaukee Journal 8/8/10 article
July 27, 2010 Congress passes $33 billion support bill to continue funding war effort in Afganistan on 308-114 vote
Unlikely to vote for war funding
The rules of engagement have turned this somewhat justified conflict into a political nightmare. How many more of our boys need to return home in bags or with permanent injury to make this action worthwhile?
Second Stimulus
Likely to vote for second stimulus
Use of federal resources must be targeted to reach out and partner with small and mid sized business for job creation
Joy Cardin Show 8/5/10 Wisconsin Public Radio show#100805B
Many Congressmen including Dave Obey felt that a second stimulus may be needed to fill the void left by the first stimulus, but....
The environment may be politically unfavorable now, before the elections
Unlikely to vote for 2nd stimulus
Would have voted NO on first $787 billion stimulus
These off budget type spending bills are destroying the future of our children by burdening them with an undue national debt
Cap & Trade or Carbon Tax
Likely to vote for global warming bills
“Its the right thing to do”
“need to get people to work now in the clean energy field”
Joy Cardin Show 8/5/10 Wisconsin Public Radio show#100805B
HR 2454 American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009 - House passed on June 26, 2009 on a 219-212 vote
Dave Obey votes YES on bill
Unlikely to vote for global warming bills
Would vote NO were the bill to come back to the House from the Senate
This bill has been described as a punishing tax on American companies, farmers and consumers
Term limits
Unlikely to vote for term limits
Julie Lassa has served in the state assembly and senate for 12 years
She was hand picked by the state Democratic party and Dave Obey
There is a bill introduced in the Senate that would limit term limits to 8 years for a House Representative and 12 years for a Senator
Likely to vote for term limits
Would consider Senate bill with possible further extensions based on election outcome percentage. Say winning by 65% of the vote - ensures that ‘good’ Congressmen remain on the job and not just by a partisan election vote.
